Supplier Relationship Management as a discipline has matured in the past few years. Everyone who buys goods or services from another entity does SRM in some form or fashion. The more mature companies have formal structures in place; but many are transactional and reactive. Most have an intuitive understanding of the benefits of good relationships with suppliers but its much more difficult to quantify the value that it brings.
